Team Smart ArM

Due to the current worldwide sanitary crisis, our training schedule for CYBATHLON 2020 has been completely modified in the last few days.

We learned last week that the CYBATHLON 2020 is postponed in order to protect the health of all people who will attend the competition. A new date has already been defined by the organizers : 19 – 20 September 2020.

Our team Smart ArM is still registered for the Powered Arm Prosthesis Race. However, in France, most of the public places are closed for safety reasons. It includes our lab : starting today, we are all working from home. It prevents us from improving the SAM prosthesis or training for the competition, for an indefinite period.

Until the situation evolves, stay home and take care of yourself and your loved ones.

During the Cybathlon, Christophe will be using a i-Limb Quantum, Össur’s premium multi-articulating myoelectric hand ! It is a very advanced hand that we are still learning to control thanks to its dedicated app.

As the Cybathlon gets closer, Christophe comes more often to the lab to pratice on our replicated parcours of the ARM race. Everyone is very enthusiastic about his progress on the different tasks !

Christophe is training for the Wire Loop task with our specific control algorithm based on the movements of his body and residual limb (more information about it). The performance he reaches with this control mode is undubitably smoother and quicker than with the classical myoelectric-based control !

SAM Team wishes you a merry Christmas and a happy new year ! We will be back after the Christmas break, ready for the last months before the Cybathlon 2020.

Today was Christophe’s first attempt on the Clean Sweep task for the powered arm prosthesis race. It will need some more strategy and training, but he is doing really great !

Our registration for the Cybathlon 2020 has been confirmed : Smart ArM will be one of the teams for the powered arm prosthesis race !
